Print Custom Color Window Appliques
To make the applique below I
used a picture I had drawn and ink
jet window decal paper. The design could have been done in color using this
technique but remember that inkjet printers don’t print white and also that
the image has to be reversed to show up correctly when installing the image on
the inside of a window.
Print out the reversed image
onto the decal paper (which is really plastic), using scissors or an X-Acto
knife cut it out around the edges of the image and apply it to a cleaned back
side of the window. Window decal paper runs about $15.00 for 5 sheets so print
out the image onto plain paper first and check it for size under the window
before printing out the final decal.
I knew I wanted some type of design on my test
PSU, but I wanted color, a dull gray etch or applique simply would not do.
Time for some Photoshop action, I got my images lined up and then printed them
out in grayscale to make sure they would fit the PSU. Then I reversed the
images and print them out on some ink
jet window decal paper.
I carefully cut out my images
with a pair of scissors (an X-Acto knife works too) cutting as close to the
edges of the image as possible. Then it is just a matter of cleaning the
acrylic and applying the appliques to the inside of the cover. Make sure
there are no dust particles on the acrylic as they will assuredly cause air
bubbles beneath the applique, if you do have bubbles do not pop them because it
will look ass, instead try removing and repositioning the applique after
cleaning the surface... if all else fails re-print and try again.
